Short bio:
Burton Norman Seitler, PhD, is a psychoanalyst in private practice in Ridgewood and Oakland, New Jersey, editor of the journal J.A.S.P.E.R., and a professor at Adelphi University. He is a talented cartoonist with a longstanding interest in cartoons of political leaders and others such as former Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg.
Abstract:
Cartoons are an illustration of, and attestation to the saying: a picture is worth a thousand words. Much like its older sibling, humor, cartoons pictorially emanate from the unconscious utilizing the language of primary process via a kind of free associative expression of visual symbolism, displacement, condensation, externalization, and sublimation. Through sight gags, imagistic plays on words, and the use of visual exaggeration, this presentation will use this medium to illustrate aspects of Trump’s demeanor, behavior, and overall decorum, with a minimum amount of words.
